Perfect for Spring 2016, as predicted by fashion forecasters, the ‘cold shoulder’ trend adds edge to an outfit by revealing a flash of skin. It can be dressed down for an effortless look, or dressed up for added glamour on any given occasion. The possibilities are endless.
Give critics the ‘cold shoulder’
Think Alexa Chung, her style is simple, yet oh so effective, just like this trend. She dresses how she likes and gives off an effortless, yet cool, vibe. Now you can too. Just pair the top with a pair of plimsolls and you’re good to go! See the feature photo if you’re curious about how the style Queen pulled the fashionable look off.
Flirty with a feminine twist
A sultry flash of the shoulders can go a long way in making any outfit edgy and attracting the right kind of attention. It hints at what is underneath, but leaves the rest to lookers imaginations.
For a more feminine look, the clothing staple could be purchased in a light colour. More specifically, one of Pantone’s Spring 2016 colour palette. This automatically makes any outfit look more ‘girly’ (so to speak). For extra femininity, pair with a flowy skirt, kitten heels and textured waves.
Wear it all year-round
Anyone who knows me knows full well that my shoulders tan quicker than any other body part, and said tan, takes forever to fade. As of this, any opportunity to show it off has to be taken regardless of it being the middle of winter. Winter? Yes winter, there’s a shoulder cut out for every season as style isn’t just for summer.
Check out this one from Next (page left). It’s a shimmering wool mix jumper with cut out shoulders and a two tone stripe pattern. I loved it so much I bought it in two colours.
This is a trend that is here to stay. Do not be fooled into believing it is a restrictive purchase that you will not get your wear out of. It is a wardrobe staple, easy to wear regardless of the weather.
